8 Weeks Out — Decide & Plan

• Confirm your move-out date with your landlord. Give written notice as per your rental agreement (usually 1–2 months).
• Research new area — schools, hospitals, grocery, commute time to office.
• Set your moving budget. Include mover cost, security deposit, first month rent, and setup costs.
• Create a rough inventory of large items — furniture, appliances, heavy safes.
• Check if your new society has a move-in slot system (many DLF, Supertech, ATS societies do).

6 Weeks Out — Book Movers & Start Notifications

• Get 3 written quotes from moving companies. Compare inclusions, not just total price.
• Book your preferred mover. Get confirmation in writing with the full inventory list.
• Apply for RWA move-out NOC at your current society (many require 7–15 days processing).
• Apply for RWA move-in slot at your new society — many Noida Expressway and Gurgaon societies require 3+ days notice.
• Notify your employer HR of address change (for Form 16 and salary records).
• Inform children's school — get transfer certificate if changing schools.

4 Weeks Out — Sort, Sell & Declutter

• Go room by room. Sell, donate, or discard anything you haven't used in a year.
• List furniture on OLX/Facebook Marketplace that won't fit the new place.
• Order packing supplies — corrugated boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape, markers.
• Start packing seasonal items (winter clothes in summer, rarely used kitchenware).
• Photograph the current flat for your records — document any existing damage before movers arrive.

2 Weeks Out — Pack & Confirm

• Pack books, décor, and non-essential items room by room. Label every box: room + contents + fragile status.
• Confirm move date and time with your mover. Get the crew supervisor's mobile number.
• Notify gas agency, water board, electricity board of disconnection date.
• Inform bank(s) of address change — online usually, or visit branch.
• Update address on Amazon, Flipkart, and any subscription services.
• Arrange care for children and pets on moving day — it gets chaotic.

1 Week Out — Final Preparations

• Pack all but essentials (clothes for the week, daily toiletries, laptop, documents).
• Create a "first night" box — bedsheet, towels, phone charger, basic kitchen items, medicines. This box goes in your car, not the truck.
• Defrost the refrigerator 24 hours before the move.
• Confirm parking arrangements for the moving truck at both locations.
• Collect all important documents — Aadhaar, passport, lease agreement, property papers — into one folder that travels with you personally.
• Withdraw enough cash for tips, tolls, and any day-of expenses.

Moving Day

• Be present when packers arrive. Walk them through every room and confirm the inventory list.
• Photograph items before they are packed — especially electronics and furniture.
• Do a final walkthrough of every room, cupboard, and balcony before the truck leaves.
• Check meter readings at your old home and photograph them.
• Get the keys to the new home before the truck arrives — don't let your goods wait outside.
• Direct the crew room-by-room at the new home. It's much easier than rearranging later.
• Check every item against the inventory before signing the delivery receipt.

First Week in Your New Home

• Update Aadhaar address — visit nearest Aadhaar centre or update online at uidai.gov.in.
• Update driving licence and vehicle RC at your new RTO (within 30 days of moving state/district).
• Register voter ID address change at nvsp.in.
• Connect new gas cylinder — apply to your agency or transfer connection.
• Register at nearest hospital / clinic for health records.
• Meet your new neighbours and introduce yourself to the society office.
